My friend, Kelly, didn't request anything, but I'm quite sure that, if she had done so, she would have wanted something by the Kinks, and something from The Village Preservation Society. So Miss Kelly, here is...Picture Book!
The next song will be the last song for A Tribe Called Request. It's time for me to move on to my own music, and work on tunes for my upcoming CD, Migration.
A few people were clamoring for a duet featuring my fiancé and me. We had a lot of ideas: Kenny and Dolly, Jack and Kyle...One evening, Nico surprised me by playing "I Something You" by Robyn Hitchcock on his ukulele. It was another CD mix favorite, one I sent to him. We even said "I something you" to each other to calm the anxiety caused by the L-word (no, not that one, the other one) when you have fallen in love with someone you have yet to meet face to face. And so, here it is, ersatz-Hawaiian style, "I Something You." (Nico - vocals and uke, Me - vocals and slide guitar).
Nick Drake is already a challenge to play, if not so much for the left hand as the right. The challenge for me was finding one of his songs in a key I could sing without having to go uber-wacky in the tuning. Thankfully, the one I could sing was also standard tuning (capo on 3rd fret). Porkmuffin, I give you, in its entirety, "Joey" by Nick Drake from Made to Love Magic.
Here's your Shins tune, hot off the griddle! Enjoy!
And a French election special. In the late 70s, Serge Gainsbourg got into a lot of trouble for his reggae version of "La Marseillaise" which he called "Aux Armes Et Caetera". Please enjoy my response to the French elections...in song. I didn't have Sly and Robbie or half the Wailers, but I had fun!
And so, it is with some delay that the great Pat Benatar standard is offered to the one who requested it. I decided this afternoon to combat my fear and stress with music. Here is the fruit of my labor. I hope it is something similar to the version I sang in your dream:
Added bonus for Who fans:
Look for a special French Election song tomorrow!
That's what I am! Apparently, the gang at Canard PC (a French gaming mag) cannot get enough of my Virb page! It's become their soundtrack at the office. Total strangers love me! WOW!
Here's a translation of the page itself:
"Contrary to what the name would lead a cultivated man to think, this isn't rap, but the album of the wife of one of our readers.
Simple guitar, a voice that slides from opera to onomatopoeia to blues, a burst of kazoo or lap steel: a good cocktail to cover the noise Gringo (one of the co-workers there) makes with his platform game or as a soundtrack for the rest of the day!"
Thank you, my fellow dorks! It means so much to me to be on the first page when Atari is firing 20% of their employees, there's now free download of the never-before released and long-awaited follow-up to Fall Out 2, Lucas Arts is presenting their newest game, and there's some very important news regarding GTA 4. These are no small matters in the gaming world, thank you for taking the time to listen.
At the request of many -- ok, well, two of you -- the songs featured on this very blog are now downloadable on virb.com
